15th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems
This 3-day conference organised by the Centre for Compressors Technology at City St George’s, University of London provides a forum for developments in air, gas and refrigeration compressors, vacuum pumps, expanders. The programme this year will include traditional keynote addresses, research and technical papers, podium papers, panel discussions and industry sessions. This will provide a platform to identify current challenges and provide the essential content and direction to shape future research.
15th International Conference on Compressors and their Systems and the CFD Short Course are scheduled to be run as in-person events.
Background
The International Conference on Compressors and their Systems series began in 1999 as a result of industrial consultation and need for academic collaboration. At the time the conference was organised by the Fluid Machinery Group of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) with support from Holroyd.
From 2009 the Centre for Compressor Technology at City St George’s, University of London took over its management and the Conference is now one of the main conventions, taking place biennially in the UK, becoming world-renowned for its place in industry and academia to gather and discuss a broad range of topical issues related to compressors and compression systems.
The IMechE remains a longstanding partner, along with the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), and the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR).

The 14th Conference will be chaired by Prof Ahmed Kovacevic and Ms Ivona Ivkovic-Kihic, and is steered and organised by the Organising Committee which consists of staff from the Centre for Compressor Technology, the events team at City St George’s, University of London, senior representatives from partner institutes and representatives of the Platinum and Gold sponsors.
The International Liaison Committee is a consortium of eminent members from industry and academia who principally advise the organising committee on trends and topics in the compression industry which would be of interest to the conference delegates. They also promote the conference in their parts of the world.
The Programme and Scientific Review Committee, chaired by Dr Matthew Read, is integral to the conference. Its function is to ensure we have an outstanding programme and the highest quality of research papers are presented at the Conference.
Since 2012, the main conference is preceded by a two-day Short Course & Forum on CFD in rotary positive displacement machines, led by Dr Sham Rane.
Conference theme
We invite papers related to all types of compressors, expanders and their systems, including but not limited to: reciprocating, diaphragm, turbo, axial, scroll, screw, vane, rotary and all other types of compressors and expanders.
The conference theme will be “Advancing compressor technology through collaboration between industry and academia”
Deadline for abstract submission is 22nd November 2026.

Industry Sessions
We encourage industry professionals to contribute presentations on relevant conference topics and share recent developments, innovative solutions, practical experiences, and novel approaches from their organisations. Industry presentations should aim to provide technical insight and value to the audience rather than serve as purely commercial or promotional content. Contributions highlighting real-world applications, challenges, lessons learned, and emerging technologies are particularly welcome.
Short Course
The conference will be preceded by a Short Course and Forum on Emerging Technologies for Computational Fluid Dynamics in Rotary Positive Displacement Machines, taking place on 11th – 12th September 2027.
The Short Course will bring benefits to specialists from industry, students, researchers and others interested in modelling and design of rotary positive displacement machines.

Centre for Compressor Technology
The International Conference on Compressors and their Systems is organised by the Centre for Compressors Technology at City St George’s, University of London.
Formed at City in 1995 with support from the Royal Academy of Engineering and Holroyd, the Centre recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, reinstating its aim to continue the advancement of compression technologies as it continues to grow.
By conducting world class R&D, providing education, developing software, and supplying consultancy and training, the Centre is not just contributing to the screw machine industry far beyond the British Isles but it is also significantly impacting the reach towards the global energy efficiency targets.
14th Conference post-conference report
The 14th Conference in the series was held from 8th to 10th September as a hybrid event, delivered in person at City St George’s, University of London, United Kingdom, and streamed online via event platform Eventee. It attracted 231 registered delegates from across the world representing variety of sectors.
The 2025 Conference featured three keynote presentations, two panel sessions, and a comprehensive programme of parallel technical sessions covering a wide range of topics, including:
